Inspired by Andy Gore’s very high quality Jeans Beetle restoration decals available through the Jeans Beetle & UK Register and Colin E. Shinkin’s work assisting an enthusiast replicate a 1970’s Kamei decor set SEBeetles now bring you a unique sheet of restoration decals …. in 1:18th.
This move has been encouraged by banter and discussion in both the SEBeetles and Volkswagen Model Club Facebook Groups by enthusiasts wishing to modify commercially available scale model Beetles to represent versions not otherwise available to collectors.
Designed to represent both the factory and accessory industries most popular SEB decals of the 1970’s the sheet provides collectors with the opportunity to indulge in anything from modest accesorisation to extensive re-modelling of 1:18th Beetle models available on the market.
In addition to the iconic over-roof style decor stripe that was a signature style of Kamei in Europe, the SP1600 Kever in South Africa and one of the accessory styles offered by Volkswagen of America in 1974 the sheet also covers many of the other popular SEB models. These include the 1303 City and Big Beetles, the Jeans Beetles and the North American Sun Bug in addition to the accessory orientated Formula Vee and the Super Beetle stripes.
The decal sheet, which is of the waterslide type with individually separated items, has been produced for us by the UK’s leading specialist in the field ensuring that it is of the highest quality that we could source.
The modeller is left to their own choice of base model. Currently the 1:18th scale offerings from Solido, Norev and Minichamps would appear to be preferable choices. The Solido GSR for example makes a perfect base to replicate the car used in the very well known Kamei advertisement whilst the Solido Ontario Blue Big Beetle makes a perfect base for totally remodelling in Moss Green or Hellas metallic and finished off with authentic rallye stripes to the body side.
