Cliffgrün and Rallyegelb were normal 1974 model year colours for the Beetle saloon. Signalorange and Phoenixrot were 1974 Karmann palette colours not normally used on standard production Beetles saloons and therefore had black, instead of paint colour matched, plastic beading between the body and wings for these models.

The Winter Beetles were produced by Volkswagen AG at Wolfsburg (Germany) between 17/11/1973 and 25/01/1974
