A unique edition for Belgium produced in the second half of March 1967 with special Grey Metallic paint (possibly L96D). Advertised with the new specification for the 1967 1300 and 1500s’ – improved rear suspension, ‘black faux leather trim’, front disc brakes, and the optional chrome wheel trim rings. Front quarter panel Mach 1 style stickers ‘1500 SPORT’. The advert states the special paint is available for types 113 (LHD) and 117 (LHD, deluxe with sliding sunroof). Source: D’leteren News nr. 23.
We also know of a 1500 advertised as a Sport by AMAG in Switzerland, apparently using the same VW publicity image but this time in colour. This would make both editions the first to be called ‘Sport’. Reportedly the 1500 Sport was also launched in Austria with ‘SPORT’ stickers.
