The sun sets on the second generation New Beetle and the replacement ’21st Century’ Beetle is launched.
At the 2018 Geneva Auto Salon in March VWs R&D head, Frank Welsch announced the Beetle will finally go out of production. This was eventually confirmed in a September 13 Press Release as July 2019.
It will be the first time in the company’s over 80-year history that a Beetle in one form or another has not been produced – truly the end of an era for Volkswagen.
The last Volkswagen Beetle, a third-generation Stonewashed Blue Last Edition coupe, rolled off the production line at Puebla, Mexico, on 10 July 2019.
