In the Netherlands, the World Cup ’74 Beetle was offered as 1300 in orange-red with Black bonnet and engine cover, side decals, sports rims, heated rear window, padded dashboard, lockable fuel filler cap and luxury seats. It came with a football, a t-shirt, and pennant.
Volkswagen offers its first ever Special Edition Beetles – the ‘Spring Edition’ May, June and Pop editions. The Beetle outsells the Model T Ford and Editions proliferate to maximise sales. By the mid 70s the Beetle was on the way out, being replaced by the Golf, with all European production closing during January 1980.
